Join us for an exclusive panel with KPBS reporters as they unpack the stories shaping our region—from the rising cost of living in San Diego to environmental and economic challenges in Imperial Valley—and share how they’re reaching new audiences through social media.
KPBS Managing Editor Vinnee Tong will moderate the discussion with education reporter Katie Anastas, South Bay and Imperial Valley reporter Kori Suzuki, and social media host and reporter Jake Gotta.

About Vinnee Tong
Vinnee Tong is an award-winning journalist with extensive experience in public media, prioritizing factual accuracy, contextual truth, and innovation. She excels in editorial strategy, to bring exposure to underrepresented voices. Previously, she was a JSK Journalism Fellow at Stanford and spent a decade at KQED, rising to Managing Editor and Director of News. She contributed to the founding of The Bay podcast. With a background in print reporting at the Associated Press, she holds degrees from Columbia Journalism School and UC Berkeley, where she was editor-in-chief of The Daily Californian, and currently serves on its board.
About Katie Anastas
Katie Anastas covers education for KPBS News, from preschools and TK to universities and community colleges. Katie has covered school closures, child care shortages, Alaska Native education and statewide school funding issues for Alaska Public Media. In New York City, she reported on a controversial admissions process at the city's elite public high schools.
About Kori Suzuki
Kori Suzuki covers South San Diego County and the Imperial Valley for KPBS. He reports on the decisions of local government officials with a particular focus on environmental issues, housing affordability, and race and identity. He is especially drawn to stories that show how we are all complicated and multidimensional.
Kori first joined KPBS in 2023 as part of the inaugural California Local News Fellowship and was hired as a staff reporter in 2025. Previously, he worked as an associate producer for Reveal and as a visual journalist at The Seattle Times and KQED. Before that, he worked for The Washington Post’s audio team, the weekly environmental public radio Living on Earth, and KALW. As an editor at his college newspaper in St. Paul, Minnesota, he helped lead a team covering the murder of George Floyd and the yearlong Black Lives Matter uprising that followed.
About Jake Gotta
Jake Gotta is a social media host and reporter for KPBS. His focus on social media helps reach new audiences and with Public Matters, he creates content that shares stories on politics and governance, discusses important issues and informs the public on how they can get involved.
Jake has been a reporter covering local and state issues in Southern California for five years as an independent journalist and with the Long Beach Post, Long Beach Watchdog, and ABC 10News (KGTV).
