In “Transitions of Form,” through a rigorous and poetic exploration of structure, light, and material, Argentine artist María Emilia Cattaneo investigates the plane as an active force capable of generating volume, spatial relationships, and perceptual transformation.In the artist's words, "My artistic practice is based on the study of the plane and its possibilities for transformation. I conceive of the plane not as a two-dimensional surface, but as an active structure capable of generating volume, space, and perceptual relationships.I work with folded planes that are articulated as units within a system. Each work is organized based on rules, metrics, and structures that establish dynamic links between the parts, where sequencing functions as a structural and compositional principle.Through the use of materials such as Plexiglas and mirrored stainless steel, I explore optical phenomena related to color and reflection. The fold introduces new spatial dimensions: it interrupts the continuity of the plane, multiplies its orientations, and generates areas of shadow, absorption, and reflection."
