2026 Yom HaShoah Commemoration

Holocaust Center of Pittsburgh

Join us in remembering the approximately six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust on Yom HaShoah, or Holocaust Remembrance Day.

The Holocaust Center has been holding a community-wide commemoration every year since the establishment of the Center in 1980. This year's program will feature music played by students from Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra, poetry readings, filmed testimony from Holocaust survivors, a candle-lighting ceremony, and other traditional elements.During the candle-lighting ceremony, six candles are lit in memory of the six million Jewish victims, and three additional candles are lit in honor of the Veterans, the Liberators, and the Righteous, those non-Jews who risked their lives to save the lives of their Jewish friends and neighbors. The candle-lighters are Holocaust Survivors and/or descendants, community members, and lay leaders.There are both in-person and virtual attendance options available (select the ticket that reflects your preferred attendance option when registering).Those registered for the virtual livestream will receive emails at both 9:30 AM and 6:45 PM on Monday, April 13, 2026, with the link to access the livestream. These emails will be sent to the email address under which you registered. The livestream will begin at 7:00 PM. If you do not receive the link or need it resent, please email jgaetano@hcpgh.org.-Security will be onsite. Below is important information to remember prior to the event:<ul><li>No signs of any kind are permitted.</li><li>Masks that obscure all or most of the face, such as balaclavas, full face masks, costume masks, etc. are not permitted. The only exception to this rule are medical masks over the nose and mouth, which are allowed.</li><li>Bags must be 12″x12″ or smaller.</li><li>Bags are subject to search.</li><li>Registrants agree to this <a href="https://jewishpgh.org/jewish-community-relations-council-audience-agreement-of-conduct/" title="https://jewishpgh.org/jewish-community-relations-council-audience-agreement-of-conduct/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">code of conduct</a>.</li></ul>-The Holocaust Center of Pittsburgh is a program of The Tree of Life. The Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh is a co-sponsor of the annual Yom HaShoah commemoration.
