Overview

House Concerts Done Right!

My New Orleans-based friend Beth Patterson is an MNOJ veteran, as half of The ZoüKeys, a duo with pianst Josh Paxton, and also in her comedic "Bad Beth & Beyond" alternative persona. But we have never presented Beth performing her core repertoire - Celtic roots music. Influenced, of course, by her musical upbringing in South West Louisiana. For this special performance, Beth is bringing along her long-time collaborator Seán Heely, a world-class Scottish/Irish fiddler. Bring your dancing boots!

This will be an Sunday afternoon show on the Hay Wagon Stage: Parking starting at 3, music at 3:30. We will wrap up before the time to head to Hartwood for whatever is happening there that evening. Just like Hartwood, you should BYOE (everything) - chairs, blankets, food, beverages. More logistical information will be sent out to registered attendees via email the week of the event.

Attentive kids 18 and under attend free with their registered adults!

As always, 100% of your contributions goes to the performers. We support live music and the people who make it, and hope you do too. Bring along some extra $$ for tips and merch.

Here is some additional information about Beth and Seán and their album Stir the Blood to Fire:

One of these players brings his deep immersion in Scottish Gaelic language to the table, is a living tune book, and holds multiple awards as a fiddler and Gàidhlig singer. The other weaves influences from her formative years playing bass and bouzouki in her native Cajun Louisiana, draws from her studies at University College, Cork, and cranks assorted side quests up to eleven.

Together, Seán Heely and Beth Patterson have created an album that invites the listener to experience their shared love of obscure lore, anecdotes, and humor.

Stir the Blood to Fire is a tapestry of rare and previously unrecorded music the duo discovered, new material they co-wrote, the preservation of old songs in pure dialects, a few instrument innovations, and some unorthodox crossovers between Celtic and Louisiana sounds.

“Great music!” – Fiona Ritchie, NPR The Thistle and Shamrock

“One powerhouse of a fiddler!” – Liz Carroll

“Louisiana legend.” – London Celtic Punks
