Overview

A deep dive into the art of weaving!

Weaver and performance artist Indira Allegra writes of our relationship to the loom, “What if whatever we are using as a loom knows we have the capacity to be affected—to be loomed ourselves?”

In this 3 week weaving intensive, we will hand weave one finished textile on 4 harness floor looms and 8 harness table top looms. Students will learn how to read weave drafts, wind a warp, dress the loom, and create basic woven structures. While this will be a heavily technical class, there is nothing more rewarding than listening to the music of clanking looms and turning yarn into fabric. No weaving experience necessary, only patience and trust in the process!

We are covering a lot in this class, and students are highly encouraged to come into the studio between class sessions to work on their project.

This class is taught by visiting artist-in-residence Adrienne Renée Weiss. Adrienne joins us for the month of May and splits her time between Chicago and San Francisco. You can learn more about her here!

This class is held in the Art Barn at our Art Farm location at 45 Hawthorne Lane. Directions and parking information will be included in your confirmation email.

Schedule: We will meet on Saturdays in May from 10am-2pm. Dates: 5/9, 5/16, and 5/23.

Registration: If you are excited to sign up for this class, please jump on the opportunity! Please register early if you are able, as it helps us to assure that classes meet their minimums in order to run! If you register more than three weeks before this class begins, a 20% early bird discount will automatically be applied to your ticket at checkout.

A Note on Ticket Pricing: We are offering sliding scale tickets in order to keep our classes accessible to as many community members as possible. There are three price tiers. Sustaining tickets help us continue to invest in programming. Full price tickets cover the costs associated with running classes. Accessibility tickets are priced below what it costs for us to run a class. If the cost of a full price ticket is a hardship, we encourage you to purchase a sliding scale ticket. If you can pay the full price or sustaining price, please choose that option so we can keep providing arts programming to the community.

Tuition assistance is available for Alchemy classes and workshops if finances are a barrier. Apply for tuition assistance here.
