Nairobi Social and Political Walk

Planetwonk

This interactive storytelling walk is meant to have the flow and information-heavy experience of a documentary.

City Square Post Office

Nairobi’s politics mirrors the city itself—layered, energetic, contested, and constantly evolving. Shaped by colonial rule, liberation struggles, ethnic alliances, religion, global economics, and citizen activism, Kenya’s political journey reflects a young democracy still being negotiated in real time. From freedom fighters who challenged the empire to activists, journalists, clergy, and ordinary citizens confronting corruption and authoritarianism, modern Kenya has been shaped as much by movements as by political leaders. Its story spans detention camps, political assassinations, corruption scandals, terrorism, economic reforms, and youth-led protests demanding accountability and change. In Nairobi, this history lives in the streets—from colonial railways and contested archives to public parks where democracy has repeatedly been defended. This interactive storytelling walk unfolds like a live documentary: immersive, balanced, and discussion-driven. Together, we explore Kenya’s social and political evolution—from empire and independence to today’s debates on debt, inequality, security, and democratic rights.Ideal for curious travelers, students, and researchers seeking to understand Nairobi through power, resistance, and everyday life.Feel free to contact us at info@theplanetwonk.com to arrange a different date and time.
