1976 - 2026
50 years have passed since a group of Asian American leaders in Los Angeles decided enough was enough. Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) deserve equal access to government services and programs in order to fully thrive.
Join AAPI Equity Alliance in celebrating this incredible milestone at our “50 Years of Leadership and Legacy” Gala on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at 5:30 PM at the California Science Center in Los Angeles.
AAPI Equity Alliance is proud to honor leaders with significant contributions to the community:
- Changemaker Award: Assemblymember Mike Fong (CA-49)for his visionary work in championing a safer California through the Stop the Hate grant program
- Mobilizer Award: Angélica Salas, Executive Director of CHIRLA, for her extraordinary courage in fighting back unjust attacks on Los Angeles immigrant communities
- Catalyst Award: Isa Kelawili Whalen, Executive Director & Founder of API Advocates, for her rising momentum in uplifting Pacific Islander voices and priorities to lawmakers
- Groundbreaker Award: Snehal Desai, Brindell & Milton Gottlieb Artistic Director of Centre Theatre Group, for his innovative impact in ensuring Asian American and Pacific Islander stories are celebrated on the theatre stage
