The Weavers Guild of Greater Cincinnati, Inc. was created in 1948 as a non-profit educational organization to promote interest in handweaving. Today, the Guild offers education in a wide range of fiber processes and techniques, including weaving, felting, spinning, basketry, knitting, and dyeing. Guild members are from the Cincinnati metropolitan area and surrounding communities, as well as from Kentucky and Indiana.Members range in experience from beginners to professionals. All benefit from the Guild's priorities: education through classes, workshops, programs, study groups; sharing information and fiber techniques with other members and community groups; and promoting and supporting local fiber producers and businesses.After 50 years of meeting in various churches throughout Greater Cincinnati, the Guild has its own home at 4870 Gray Road in Spring Grove Village.

Needle Arts

Learn a variety of needle arts including such crafts as knitting, embroidery, punch needle and quilting.

Dates: Tuesdays, 3/24, 3/31, and 4/7, 6 pm – 8 pm each date. Sales End: Mar 17. Ticket: $70 + Eventbrite fee. Instructor: Abby Langdon. Student Age: Teen - Adult. Class Location: 1st Floor. Materials fee: $10. Skills Needed: Basic embroidery skills recommended. Class Limit: 12Discover what embroidered borders, ribbon work, beads, buttons and embellishments can do to enhance a quilt! There is a long tradition of crazy quilt embroidery, and we’ll learn all about it while developing our hand stitching skills. Abby will supply fabric of printed quilt squares for us to practice on and use as our sampler, but if you have a quilt of your own you’d like to work on, please bring it along. Basic embroidery skills are helpful to have for this class, whether you’ve taken Introduction to Embroidery or learned how to hand stitch elsewhere. If you can thread a needle and have ever sewn on a button you should be just fine.Supplies to Bring:<ul><li>$10 materials fee payable to the instructor at start of class. Contact the instructor if you have questions about this policy.Abby Langdon is a textile artist with more than 15 years of experience creating fiber art in fun, innovative ways. Her career began on the indie craft show circuit in 2008 when she opened her business, abbydid, where she designed and produced plush creatures, mainly monsters, which now dwell (harmlessly) in homes around the world and have been featured in quite a few publications. This focus eventually evolved into 2D and 3D fiber art that appeared in gallery shows, art fairs, and commercially commissioned settings. Langdon's techniques and focus are ever-evolving, and now include a millinery business of handmade hats and accessories incorporating traditional techniques.
