A year before Al Jarreau's death, this documentary retraced his exceptional career in AfYou won’t know what we’re watching… until it starts!

Al Jarreau was used to juggling genres, and his discography swung between jazz, pop and R&B. First appearing on the scene in the 1970s, this son of a pastor and a pianist from the Seventh Day Adventist Church didn't take long to be considered one of the most original vocalists of his time.

Screening followed by a panel discussion about African-Americam artists who fled to France during the segregation years, with Yasmina Jaafar, journalist and author of the book "Ils ont choisi la France", Pr. Audrey Celestine, Professor at New York University, historian and social scientist whose work focuses on migration, memory, race and identity in France, the French Caribbean Margot Sergent, Musician and Singer and Pr. Jean Beaman, Professor at CUNY, who works in Sociology, Black, Race and Ethnic Studies, International Migration Studies, Africana Studies.
