FOPOS Eastern Screech Owl Walk // Saturday, March 21

FOPOS Eastern Screech Owl Walk // Saturday, March 21

Overview

Join the Friends of Princeton Open Space (FOPOS) and South Jersey Wildlife Tours for an evening Eastern Screech Owl Walk.

Join the Friends of Princeton Open Space (FOPOS) and South Jersey Wildlife Tours for a guided Eastern Screech Owl Walk at dusk on Saturday, March 21st at 7:30pm.

Did you know that Eastern Screech Owls are one of the most common owl species in North America? Odds are you have one of these nocturnal neighbors mere miles (or less!) from your doorstep. During this experience, we will walk the trails at the Billy Johnson Mountain Lakes Nature Preserve in Princeton and listen and look for Eastern Screech Owls, learning much more about them along the way.

Space is limited to 20 participants; be sure to sign up in advance. Please note that this event is geared towards adults as it begins at 7:30 PM.

BYO: Please bring water and wear comfortable hiking boots; the trails can get muddy especially around the lake. Binoculars may be helpful earlier in the walk when it isn't as dark. If you happen to have a green night flashlight, this is helpful to spot the owl's eyes in a non-invasive way.

Meeting Location: Billy Johnson Mountain Lakes Nature Preserve, 57 Mountain Ave., Princeton NJ 08540---we will meet at the main parking lot for this event right off Mountain Avenue

Cost: FREE. This event is sponsored by Friends of Princeton Open Space. Suggested donation of $10 per person.

About FOPOS: Since1969, FOPOS has been working to preserve and protect natural spaces in the greater Princeton area. As part of our mission-driven work, we rely on volunteers to help make progress when it comes to restoration work, such as our current forest and riparian restoration projects in the Billy Johnson Mountain Lakes Nature Preserve. Please consider volunteering with FOPOS or making a donation to support our year-round stewardship work.

Please note that Screech Owl sightings are not guaranteed. We do have high owl activity at the preserve but you never know how the night will go.
