Art & Wellness Series: CathARTic: Healing Through Creation - Come for another engaging Timucua Talks roundtable discussion with local experts. June’s topic is PTSD, and our guest panel will discuss their experiences and how engaging with the arts helps them to cope with trauma and past events.
Panelists:
Sean Lake, PhD, is a Classics scholar and founder of The Hercules Project, which inspired this discussion and the June Timucua play series.
Zachary Dodson, MA, CCHt, LMHC, QS is a counselor whose work focuses on trauma, including military-related PTSD, as well as anxiety, stress, addiction, ADHD, and family issues.
Elizabeth Jackson, LCSW, QS is a Community Engagement and Partnership Coordinator for the ARMOR Program at the Orlando VA Health Care System. A licensed clinical social worker and Army veteran, she has experience serving military and veteran communities.
Moderator - Ward Gros is a Timucua Ambassador and retired Sergeant Major with 31 years in the U.S. Army and Army Reserve. He also retired from teaching high school English and remains active in Central Florida’s visual arts community.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a condition that can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event involving serious threat, fear, or helplessness.
Common symptoms include re-experiencing the trauma, avoiding reminders, negative changes in mood or thinking, and ongoing hyperarousal such as poor sleep, irritability, or difficulty concentrating.
