"A Taste of Whitman & Hanson

Dollars for Scholars, a program of Scholarship America, is a national network of more than 500 grassroots community-based, volunteer-driven scholarship foundations in cities, towns and neighborhoods throughout the United States. It was founded in 1959 by Dr. Irving Fradkin in Fall River, Massachusetts under the name Citizens’ Scholarship Foundation.Dollars for Scholars of Whitman and Hanson was established in the fall of 1962 by residents who wished to assist graduating high school seniors further their education. Financial aid is awarded on a merit-based system. Since its inception in 1962, DFS has awarded over $2.5 million to more than 3,400 Whitman and Hanson students. In 2018, one hundred and thirty-six students received $128,050.
