Nell has been a Certified Nurse-Midwife since completing the program at State University of New York in 1986. She was in practice for nearly two decades before she received her Master of Science degree in Midwifery in 2003 from Philadelphia University.Nell’s passion is bridging the gap between practice and theory. Her focus is ensuring women have access to the benefits of high quality midwifery care in every birth setting and across the continuum of perinatal and women’s health services.Nell is the original author ofClinical Practice Guidelines for Midwifery and Women’s Health, now in it’s 5th edition.What does she love about teaching? Two 3.25 hr interactive sessions ONE WEEK APART ( 8:45am-12:30pm EST)

The two virtual workshop sessions provide up-to-date evidence and hands-on skill building for suturing, knot-tying, assessment, and repair of common birth lacerations. Education and simulation are combined so that everyone learns by doing. The workshop builds on core competencies for suturing and provides 6.5 hours CE (or Simulation Hours if your program permits): ACNM program # Applied for. <h3>The 6.5-hour workshop is held over two sessions one week apart</h3><ul><li>Day One: 3/18 from 8:45 am-12:30 pm Eastern Time, and</li></ul><ul><li>Day Two: 3/25 from 8:45 am-12:30 pm Eastern Time</li></ul>Day One: Knot-tying and Suturing, &amp; Assessment for Birth Lacerations builds on the core competencies for suturing, knot-tying, and assessing tissues for birth lacerations. Focus is on building a learning plan for personal improvement of instrument handling &amp; suturing skills. Identification of anatomy &amp; assessment after birth prepare the participant for Day Two. This session is a prerequisite for Day Two.Day Two: Repair of Birth Lacerations builds on the core competencies for repair of birth lacerations. We'll create perineal and labial laceration models together. Focus is on identification of lacerations, planning and performing a repair, and application of the suturing and knot-tying skills during simulated repair of birth lacerations.As part of this workshop participants will receive a suturing model, suturing instruments, and suture. Participants will need to purchase their choice of 3-dimentional foam or tissue models for Day Two.
