Do I need dance shoes?

Accepted Answer

No, but they do help.  It's good to wear any kind of dance shoes that are slippery on the bottom, allowing you to pivot.  Character shoes, jazz shoes, dance sneakers, and ballroom shoes are all great.  We do not recommend wearing high-heeled shoes unless they are made specifically for dancing.

Question 2

Do I need to come with a partner?

Accepted Answer

No; most people come without a partner.  The teacher encourages students to switch partners during the class.  If you do come with a partner and you would like to dance with them the whole time, just stick together when people are changing partners.

Should I lead or follow?

Accepted Answer

In this class, the teachers encourage everyone to practice leading and following.  Dancing both roles helps us understand how communication works in tango.  Felipe and Ayano can both lead and follow, and both give good feedback to leaders and followers.
