US Shogi Championship 2026

The 2026 US Shogi Championship will take place in New York City at Moonzescope, bringing together shogi players from around the country for two full days of competition and camaraderie.

With a history spanning more than three decades, this national tournament welcomes participants of every skill level for a weekend dedicated to serious play, study, and community. The main event is a Swiss-system individual tournament: players face off in preliminary rounds and are then grouped into A and B divisions for the final stages. Alongside the individual competition, a regional round-robin team tournament will also be held, encouraging friendly rivalry between different parts of the country.

This year’s championship will feature three distinguished professional guests: Akio Ishikawa (7-Dan), Chihiro Idoh (Women's 2-Dan), and Kazuhiro Nishikawa (6-Dan). Throughout the event, they will participate in instructional games, interact with attendees, and provide insights drawn from their professional experience. Players can also take part in an optional pre-tournament gathering on Friday, as well as a welcome party on the first evening of play at Peking Duck House in Chinatown, creating additional chances to socialize and build connections within the shogi community.

For the full itinerary, please visit the New York Shogi webpage.

All tickets include a bento lunch. If you wish to pay for your ticket (only for general adult admission) on the day of or before the tournament, please register for the free ticket and enter your information in the questionnaire. We will accept cash or Venmo.

From experienced competitors to those just beginning their shogi journey, the championship offers something for everyone. Join us at Moonzescope in New York City for a weekend of strategic battles, learning, and shared enthusiasm for the game. Save the date and prepare to make your move.
