~Join us this month for a snowshoe hiking tour through Nisqually Land Trust’s Mount Rainier Gateway Protected Area and the Nisqually Community Forest as we traverse this incredible winter landscape on our way to the Mount Tahoma Trails Association Copper Creek Hut!NCF Executive Director Marco Pinchot and Northwest Natural Resource Group Forester Chase Beyer will lead attendees on a 4 - 6.5 mile round-trip hike while we learn about the importance of conserving this land for wildlife and what it takes to ecologically manage a working forest.NLT is partnering with Nisqually Community Forest, Nisqually Stream Stewards, and Northwest Natural Resource Group to help our community explore this environment in the upper watershed. In order to make the most of our day-long excursion, make sure to read through these important event details before registering:~Hike Description: Strenuous, 4 - 6.5 miles roundtrip with 800ft elevation gainMeeting Location: Whittaker Mountaineering (30027 WA-706, Ashford, WA 98304)Event Time &amp; Date: Friday, February 27th @ 8:30am - 3pm (Meet at Whittaker Mountaineering before carpooling to the trailhead)Required Gear: Waterproof hiking boots, microspikes, and snowshoes depending on current snow conditions (rentals available at Whittakers, $32/pair). Rain gear, a dry change of clothes including gloves / wool socks, and any medications needed. Bring lunch and plenty of water!Parking &amp; Carpooling: Sno-Park Day Passes ($25) may be required for each vehicle depending on our starting location (weather-dependent). While we encourage carpooling, please anticipate the day pass expense. If needed, we will purchase these day-of at Whittaker Mountaineering. All vehicles driving to the trailhead are required to be AWD/4WD with snow tires, as well as chains or snow socks for tires.RSVP is required, and registration is limited to 15 spots.
