Art in the Garden Series: Botanical Impressions
Join us for a hands-on botanical impressions workshop where plants, pigment, and people create living prints together!
Welcome to the Art in the Garden Series: Botanical Impressions event! Join us at 8210 Murphy Rd on April 18, 2026 at 11:00 AM (Eastern Time) for a delightful experience at the Green Farmacy Garden. This workshop will teach you how to create botanical prints on fabric using fresh plants and thier natural pigments.
Participants will begin with a short foraging walk to gather plant materials, then learn how to transfer those materials onto fabric. Participants are also welcome to bring their own plant materials to use in their prints. There will also be an option to use an iron acetate solution, a natural modifier made from rust and vinegar, which reacts with plant tannins to darken colors and create deeper gray and black tones in your prints. No prior experience is needed. All materials will be provided, but your welcome to bring your own fabric and clothing to print on!
**Note: This event will be held outside, weather permitting. The parking area is grass & may become unsafe in wet conditions. Please check your registration email in case of cancellation prior to leaving for event, especially if there have been unfavorable storms.

Located in Fulton, Maryland, The Green Farmacy Garden is a sanctuary for approximately 300 native and non-native species of plants that have been used traditionally and/or researched for medicinal applications. USDA botanist James A. Duke, PhD, and his wife, Peggy, collected medicinal plants for over sixty years. In 1997, they transformed part of their pasture land into a teaching garden highlighting the plants that are featured in Jim’s book, The Green Pharmacy.
The Green Farmacy Garden is also a part of the United Plant Savers network of sanctuaries around the country, which strive to educate the public and maintain native plant species that have become at risk or endangered.
