Mexican Rum: Beyond the Beach

A Monstera Spirits Seminar

Friday, February 22
1:00 PM

📍 Monstera Mezcaleria
🎟 Industry-focused tasting | 10 rums total

Mexico makes some of the most exciting rum in the world right now—and almost no one’s talking about it the right way.

This seminar is a deep dive into agave country’s other sugarcane obsession, exploring how terroir, wild fermentation, local yeast, wood, and tradition shape Mexican rum into something that feels closer to mezcal than molasses-driven Caribbean styles.

We’ll taste 10 distinct rums from four producers who are redefining the category:

  • Uruapan Charanda – Michoacán’s historic sugarcane spirit with deep agricole-adjacent roots
  • Paranubes – Wild fermentation, jungle cane, and serious funk from Oaxaca
  • Alambique Serrano – High-altitude cane spirits with mezcal-level intention
  • Pelécanas – Clean, expressive, modern Mexican rum done right

What we’ll cover

  • Cane vs molasses (and why it actually matters)
  • Wild fermentation & local yeast in rum production
  • Still types, proof, and texture
  • How Mexican rum fits into agave-centric bars and programs

This is not a tiki seminar.
This is rum for agave drinkers, bartenders, and spirits nerds.

Expect thoughtful pours, real conversation, and the kind of tasting that makes you rethink how rum belongs on your back bar.
