What are the accommodations like?

Our riverside retreat has 4 bedrooms, 8 beds, 3 air mattresses, and 2 baths. Enjoy a full kitchen, screened porch, hot tub, and game patio, private dock, and  canal access, —the perfect sanctuary for rest and creativity. Linens and towels are included.

The Matanzas River offers a different creative energy than the open ocean. Expect a weekend of contemplative stillness. We will be working under the canopy of ancient oaks and along the quiet marsh edges. You'll learn how to translate the "Old Florida" textures of Spanish mo

Do I need to know how to draw in order to attend?

Whether you are a seasoned artist or picking up a pencil and pen for the first time in years, the expert instruction is designed to be adaptive. We will move from basic drawing and line-making in the morning to capturing the complex, organic beauty of the river in the afternoon.

Do  I need to bring any art materials?

Accepted Answer

Skip the art store trip. A professional setup awaits: archival fine liners, graphite pencils, erasers, and a 6" x 9" spiral-bound sketchbook. I’ve hand-selected every tool needed to capture the Matanzas landscape.

Will this weekend be fast-paced?

Accepted Answer

Not at all. This retreat is designed for contemplative stillness and a meditative pace. Pen and ink is a "slow art" medium that invites you to settle into a flow state while capturing the quiet rhythm of the river.

What about food for the weekend?

Savor a communal start to our journey with a Welcome Dinner provided on your first evening. For all other meals, you have the freedom to explore local flavors or enjoy quiet bites on your own. You may also bring your own food to prepare at the house.
