Online Webinar: The Global Importance of Seagrass Conservation

Date and Time: Saturday, March 21st, 10am – 11am

Via: Zoom

Speaker: Dr. Agnes Mittermayer, Center for Coastal Studies

Called the “forgotten ecosystem,” seagrass is a vital natural resource that supports biodiversity, cycles and stores nutrients and pollution, protects coastal areas, and provides nurseries for larger fisheries. It also mitigates climate change through highly effective carbon sequestration.

Dr. Agnes Mittermayer, a marine ecologist at the Center for Coastal Studies, is interested in the biodiversity and connections within seagrass meadows. She leads SeagrassNet, a global monitoring program founded in 2001that collects data on the health of seagrass ecosystems and the threats they face.
