Expressive Arts and Child-Centered Play Therapy

Expressive Arts and Child-Centered Play Therapy

Online event
Friday, Mar 20 from 9:30 am to 12:45 pm EDT
Overview

Bringing Art-Based Interventions and Creativity Into Child-Centered Play Therapy

Description: This training provides mental health professionals with the skills to intentionally integrate art and expressive interventions into their play therapy work that honors the child’s lead, choice, and innate capacity for self-directed expression. Client-Centered Art Therapy and Child-Centered Play Therapy are parallel, humanistic approaches that are grounded in the belief that healing is client-driven and emerges through expressive creation and play. Both modalities rely on forms of communication that extend beyond words and emerge through play and creative expression, empowering clients’ own internal agency.

Throughout this experiential workshop, participants will explore ways expressive art can be brought into the playroom, including a deeper understanding of materials, interactive art experientials, and expressive play-based interventions.

Following the training, participants will be able to:

Demonstrate a deeper understanding of expressive modalities, art materials, and creative interventions to enhance their play therapy practice.

Identify and apply at least three new art-based interventions in the play therapy space.

Develop the skills to utilize and integrate expressive modalities within a client-centered play therapy framework.

This training meets the standards for an APT non-contact training and participants will be credited (3) Non-contact CEs following the completion of an 80% passing rate quiz and feedback survey
