Noosa Chamber Music: The Six-Stringed Atlantic Voyage (Noosaville Concert)

Noosa Chamber Music: The Six-Stringed Atlantic Voyage (Noosaville Concert)

Good Shepherd Lutheran ChurchNoosaville, QLD
Saturday, Mar 21 from 4 pm to 5:30 pm
Overview

Old World Treats & New World Beats. Enjoy the Baroque and the Brazilian in original arrangements for clarinet & guitar.

Like so many great discoveries and inventions, the Guitar has its origin in ancient Greece. The Hellenic κιθάρα (kithara) was reborn in Spain, where it learned the music of the Moors. The new king of the lutes could be heard playing in the courts of aristocrats and in market squares for centuries thereafter.

When the Spaniards and Portuguese boarded ships bound for the New World, they packed their favourite instrument. In its new home, the guitar accompanied a new style of dance music with European harmonies, Arabic melodies, and Afro-Caribbean rhythms. Latin music was born!

Guitarist Owen Thomson and clarinettist Sacha Gibbs-McPhee will begin with Bach, Schubert, and the Spaniard Scarlatti, before taking a Trans-Atlantic flight to the land of Chôros, Tango, and Mambo.

You are invited to attend the most intimate program in our series to date, and enjoy a peaceful Autumn concert at 4pm on the 21st of March 2026, at Noosaville's Good Shepherd Hall.
