A Bel Canto Evening
Boston Summer Opera presents a live opera concert celebrating the beauty of the voice, and fundraising for our upcoming 2026 season.
Boston Summer Opera is coming to town early this year!
Join us for A Bel Canto Evening, a special concert supporting our upcoming 2026 season, A Bel Canto Summer!
Bel canto, which translates to “beautiful singing,” is all about the voice. This music highlights the power of the human voice and offers an accessible introduction to opera for both first-time audience members and longtime opera lovers.
The program features arias by bel canto composers Donizetti and Rossini, as well as other works, all performed by Boston Summer Opera artists. The program will begin with a Mozart set, in honor of BSO’s first ever show, Don Giovanni, followed by a contrasting French set. The second half is devoted entirely to bel canto repertoire, with arias from L’elisir d’amore, Il barbiere di Siviglia, and Don Pasquale.
All performers in this concert are professional Boston-based musicians graciously donating their talent in an effort to help us fundraise for A Bel Canto Summer. All proceeds support artist pay, venue costs, and our mission to keep opera affordable and welcoming for our community. Tickets are intentionally low-cost -- additional donations are greatly appreciated.
Performers
Naré Kim, soprano
Hannah Shanefield, soprano
Becca Allen, mezzo-soprano
Leo Balkovetz, tenor
Dylan Evans, baritone
Julian Gau, piano
Guest artist: baritone David Small
BSO audiences may recognize David from his moving portrayal of the title role of Rigoletto last summer. He is also a professor at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
Following the performance, audience members are invited to a reception in the Hunnewell Chapel with the musicians.
