Overview

Join us at the French Library for a conversation on "The Belly of Paris" by Émile Zola. This event is in English.

The French Library is excited to announce our new English Book Club!

We will be reading and discussing works from our new English language collection to help English speakers discover the world of Francophone literature.

----

Our second meeting will be Tuesday, April 21st, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM.

We will be discussing "The Belly of Paris" by Émile Zola, a classic novel set in the bustling Les Halles food market that follows Florent Quenu, an escaped political prisoner who finds refuge with his brother's family but soon becomes entangled in political intrigue. Émile Zola was an activist, journalist, and the most famous novelist of late-19th century France.

Please read the book in its entirety and come ready to discuss with an open heart! The book club is a space for readers of all backgrounds. Previous familiarity with French literature or French language is not required. The discussion will be in English.
