An Elegant Rebellion: A Brunch Celebrating 10 Years of Black Maternal Health
Dearest Gentle Reader,
It is with the utmost interest, and no small amount of admiration, that this author observes a most remarkable gathering taking place within our fair city of Philadelphia.
While society so often reserves its finest tables for idle chatter and empty pleasantries, today’s assembly is decidedly different. Here, beauty meets purpose. Elegance meets advocacy.
Whispers abound of a movement that has grown stronger with each passing year. A movement bold enough to speak truth, tender enough to hold community, and courageous enough to demand justice for Black mothers and families.
Under the stewardship of Oshun Family Center, this convening is no mere brunch. It is a declaration.
A declaration that maternal health is not a luxury.
That survival should never be exceptional.
And that joy, when rooted in justice, is nothing short of revolutionary.
Look closely, dear reader, and you will see more than fine china and florals. You will see birthworkers, advocates, fathers, elders, and visionaries, each playing their part in a story that refuses to be silenced.
And should anyone dare ask whether change can be beautiful, whether advocacy can be soft and powerful all at once, well, they need only look around this room.
One thing is certain:
This season belongs not to gossip, but to grace.
Not to spectators, but to builders.
And history will remember who showed up.
Yours truly,
Lady Oshunworth
