Join us on Friday, May 8, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, as local historian Mark Brugh presents "Jacob Miller's Carriage Step Often Identified as the Old Slave Block," a talk exploring the history of a local Sharpsburg landmark and the events surrounding it.Local historian Mark Brugh will explore the history of Sharpsburg's "slave block," from its time as a carriage step belonging to Jacob Miller, a prominent Sharpsburg businessman and farmer, to its designation as a "slave block" and its ties to events before and after the Civil War! Brugh's presentation, gathered from years of dedicated research, includes fascinating primary source documents.Culture &amp; Cocktails is generously sponsored by the James &amp; Mary Schurz Foundation. C&amp;C is held on the second Friday of each month from 6:00-8:00 PM. Doors open at 5:30 PM. Refreshments and one complimentary drink ticket are included with each ticket.This month's cocktail is a whiskey based cocktail! Zoom Ticket Admission: This C&amp;C talk will also be available to view over Zoom rather than an in-person ticket. Zoom tickets are $5.00. When purchasing a Zoom ticket, please use an email address that you can access to receive your Zoom link. After purchasing your Zoom ticket, you will receive a Zoom link during the week prior to the talk on May 8, 2026. The Zoom waiting room for the talk will open on Friday, May 8, at 5:45 PM. Once you enter the Zoom waiting room, you will be admitted to the Zoom meeting. We ask that you keep your audio muted and video off while joining over Zoom.
