Phoebe Vlassis
Phoebe Vlassis is a weaver and musician from Athens, Greece, currently based in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her journey through various places and practices has woven a tapestry of multidisciplinary artistry that centers on weaving, music, and performance, while also fostering a deep curiosity about language, words, and communication.
Her most recent project connects weaving with music, using the loom as a percussive instrument. Phoebe is a member of the polyphonic vocal ensemble Trendafilka, sings and plays the accordion in her traditional Greek music band, and leads a community choir that also serves as a Greek language class. She has been weaving for nine years, gaining her knowledge through the generosity of mentors and peers.
For this night of music at the Henry Miller Memorial Library, Phoebe will weave fabric while performing, creating a tangible record of the event - a woven timeline of the performance and time spent together.
Kit Center
Kit Center has been odd his whole life. Maybe it starts with a name. As a child he lived in buses, garages, trailers and attics. He began recording at the age of 6 on his father's Tascam tape machine and has been at it ever since.
As an adult, he traveled restlessly across the continent, eventually finding a home in Crocket,t CA, where he continues to write and record. The music is equal parts Country and Soul, but is really something else altogether. It is reverential music, and the bars and roadhouses are its churches - the song is sacred, and every night could be your last.
Kit also runs Sundog Studios, an analog studio in Big Sur, is a co-founder of the Long Road Society record label, and co-hosts Run With The Moon, a live music showcase that takes place when the stars align, under the full moon.
