Clontuskert Drama Group are proud to present their debut production, The Stations, a three-act comedy by Co. Mayo playwright Carole King. Performances will take place in St Catherine’s Hall, Aughrim, on Thursday 19th, Friday 20th and Saturday 21st, with curtain up each night at 8pm.Audiences are guaranteed an evening of laughter and entertainment as this highly comical play captures the familiar chaos, mishaps and excitement that accompany preparations for the Stations.The story centres on the impeccably house-proud Veronica O’Brien, a woman who likes everything just so. Played by Brid Lawless, Veronica’s upright and proper nature leaves audiences sympathising with her long-suffering husband Stanley, portrayed by Thomas Dolan, who does his best to stay on her good side while rarely meeting her exacting standards.Veronica’s well-meaning but hapless friend Martha, played by Jacqueline Nevin, is, in Veronica’s eyes, destined for spinsterhood — until romance blossoms with neighbour Jack Devers (John Paul Butler). Jack is doted upon by his mother Freda, brought to life by Carmel Frehill, who has her own problems dealing with the unwanted romantic attention of her long-time neighbour, Stanley’s Uncle Ned, played by Thomas Brennan.No Stations would be complete without the parish priest, and the formidable Fr O’Malley, expertly portrayed by Bryn Coldrick, ensures order is maintained — with enthusiastic assistance from the energetic Sr Bernadine (Emma Doubleday), a fitness-loving nun determined to get everyone involved in her keep-fit regime.Veronica’s constant boasting about her children is put to the test when daughter Ciara (Olivia Lyons) arrives home from London without her aristocratic husband, Lord Tristan Lloyd (Enda Shiel). Matters worsen when son Jonathan (Mark Houlihan) returns and reveals his true colours, much to the horror of his righteous mother — and in full view of the parish priest and assembled neighbours.This debut production from Clontuskert Drama Group promises plenty of mayhem, mistaken intentions and comic intrigue, all brought to life under the expert direction of Declan Kelly.
