Question 1

I hear that Flyathlons are fundraisers.  What is that all about?

At Running Rivers, we firmly believe that it is our responsibility to not just be "users" of public lands, waters, and fisheries.  So we use the Flyathlon to raise money for native fish conservation work.  We ask that each NASCARP team commit to raising $500 as a part of their Flyathlon experience.

Question 2

Do I need to be a good fly fisherman to be successful at NASCARP?

Accepted Answer

Sort of.  The Davis Ponds are regularly stocked with rainbow trout but also have other fish species present (brook trout, yellow shiner, etc...).  Depending on the day, fishing at the Davis Ponds can be bonkers easy or super frustrating for all.

Question 3

Do I need to be a fast runner to be successful at NASCARP?

Accepted Answer

Again, the answer is sort of.  If you are super efficient at fishing, you may be able to keep pace with the fast runners who suck at fishing.  The course has about 230 feet of loss / gain per lap, so not a terribly difficult grind.

Question 4

Do I have to drink to participate in NASCARP?

Accepted Answer

Yes, you have to drink something to participate.  We have both leaded (alcoholic beverages) and unleaded (non-alcoholic beverages) divisions, so the event is accessible to all!

Question 5

How offensive / awesome can my team theme be?

Accepted Answer

Good question.  Since there is a prize for best team theme (voted on by event volunteers), you are going to want to go big.  That said, the course is open to the public, so try to keep it somewhat clean.  Past team themes include Team Pressed Hamms, Team Two Dicks Trickle, and Team Naked and Afraid.
