I Ola Hāloa Cooking Cohort

K﻿ALOHCC is a member of the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs, Na Lei Makalapua Continent Council, and the Oregon Pacific Islander Coalition. In 1918 our founder, Prince Jonah Kuhio, opened the Honolulu Hawaiian Civic Club to help elevate the voices of the Native Hawaiian community during the illegal overthrow of Hawaiʻi. Today, our purpose remains the same; elevate AND amplify the voice of our Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities. Here in Oregon and SW Washington, we hope to bring the stories of our Hawaiʻi that will help educate the greater community of who we are as a people.

I Ola Hāloa: Promoting Health Through Indigenous Foods is a cooking program hosted by KALO Hawaiian Civic.

AloHā Resource & Community Center - KALO

Aloha mai kākou! Join us for a five-week, hands-on cooking series that celebrates kalo and other traditional foods while supporting the health of our kaiāulu! Each week, participants will prepare delicious, low-sodium recipes, learn practical skills to reduce hypertension risk, and connect cultural knowledge with everyday wellness.This series is for all ages and all skill levels—perfect for keiki, kūpuna, and everyone in between. We’ll focus on simple, affordable, ʻohana-friendly meals you can actually make at home.Each class will be held at the AloHā Resource &amp; Community from 6:30pm to 8pm. Please see specific dates below:Agenda:<ul><li>Week 1 - February 17: Kalo as a Foundation</li><li>Week 2 - February 24: Kalo &amp; Traditional Food</li><li>Week 3 - March 3: Pilina to Land and Food</li><li>Week 4 - March 10: ʻOhana Meals (Kalo-Centered Foods for Everyone)</li><li>Week 5 - March 17: Hoʻokupu ʻAi Kalo (Community Feast)</li></ul>*Please note that attending every class is not required, but highly recommended.The cost of each ticket is $100. We have 15 tickets available. Your ticket will cover you for the full duration of the cohort.Come hang out, cook, taste, and strengthen your connection to ʻāina, culture, and community!
