Premodern Korea Lecture with Isabelle Sancho
Overview
This talk is an overview of the book, which was published in 2025 by Atelier des Cahiers, a publisher specializing in Korea that is distributed in France and Korea. Isabelle Sancho will present a discussion on the origins of this ambitious project, which is the first of its kind in Western languages. The project introduces the complex issue of Confucianism and Korea to all audiences, both academic and general. The speaker will elucidate the choices that were made in determining the detour with China, the long periodization of almost a millennium in Korean history, the thirty themes, the numerous indexes and the writing style, which falls between a general introduction and critical essay. Consequently, she will address the potential for an English adaptation of the book.
