Lei Po'o Workshop at Kaulukanu Family Farm, March 28th
Celebrate Hawaiian culture through the art and beauty of making Lei Po'o.
Aloha Mai Kākou!
Come celebrate Hawaiian culture through the art of lei making on Saturday, March 28th from 4-6:30pm. Our Lei Po'o class will be held on our family farm in Waimānalo, once you register, event details including our address will be sent with your ticket confirmation email (scroll down the email to view event instructions).
In this class you will learn to make your own lei poʻo in the wili style, using a wrapping technique.
Everything you need will be provided, including a gorgeous assortment of locally sourced fresh foliage & flowers. All you have to bring is your creativity and willingness to learn!
Enjoy the beauty of our Waimānalo farm as you take in the view of Mount Olomana and the Koʻolau. We will be starting on time, so please arrive by 4pm. Time flies when you are having fun, and lei making takes some concentrated focus, so keep that in mind. Our class is scheduled from 4-6:30pm, but if you need more time to finish your lei you are welcome to stay as long as you need.
If you are not feeling well, please choose to protect the health of others. We can make arrangements for you to join us on another date, we host Lei Po'o workshops every month!
Looking forward sharing my love of lei making with you!
Mahalo!

About the teacher:
Aloha, my name is Kalae Kaina, I am a dancer, artist, farmer, and full time student at UH Mānoa pursuing a double major in Hawaiian Studies and Visual Art. I live in Waimānalo with my family building our dream to steward the land we've been blessed with. My grandmother, Kupuna Kainao Wright, instilled in me a love for lei making. She was a pioneer of the Kupuna Program in our Kailua public schools, teaching keiki ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi and Hawaiian culture. I grew up by her side helping her make lei for the May Day Court, canoe races, and countless special occasions.
P.S. We keep bees on our property, our hives are located on the other end of our lot where we set up for lei making, if you are allergic to bees please bring your EpiPen incase of emergencies. We do keep one on site, but it would be good if you brought one as well just incase. So far, fingers crossed, we've never had a participant get stung.
