Erik Jekabson's Breakthrough Sextet

The Sound RoomOakland, CA
Saturday, Mar 7 from 7:30 pm to 10 pm
Overview

Creative Original Jazz from One of the best Jazz Ensembles

Erik Jekabson's "Breakthrough" sextet plays music from his most recent album "Breakthrough". Erik has re-orchestrated the music (originally written for various size chamber groups including chamber orchestra) for an all-star sextet. Allmusic Guide has described the music as "a vibrant blend of influences from the glimmering, minimalist orchestrations of Philip Glass and John Adams to the moody, sunbaked atmospheres of Miles Davis and arranger Gil Evans' large-ensemble works" and it was one of the San Jose Mercury News' top jazz albums of 2025.

Erik Jekabson, trumpet, flugelhorn

Matt Renzi, woodwinds and saxophone

Dillon Vado, vibraphone

Dan Zemelman, piano

Dan Feiszli, bass

Jon Arkin, drums
