EOL 101 Death Cafe

l am an End of Life (Death) Doula tending to the needs of the dying and supporting their families/caregivers. I'm also a community death educator and hospice volunteer.I had the profound good fortune of being Mom's caregiver for 11 years and experiencing her death through my love-tinted glasses as natural, sacred, graceful, gentle, inevitable, and her final rite of passage.Escorting my mom to the end of the earth changed me on a cellular level and my relationship with, and understanding of, death and dying were completely transformed. As a result, I am committed to amplifying constructive dialogues around death and dying because I believe that by sharing our knowledge and experiences we can help combat the pervasive negativity and death illiteracy that is so prevalent in our society.Over the past three years, I have attended dozens of Death Cafes and I am always in awe of how the simple concept of tea, cake, and dialogue provides so much to so many. I believe that talking about death and dying can reduce fear and suffering so I host these conversations, under the Death Cafe banner, to pay it forward.

Death Cafes are consciously curated containers that provide a safe space to share thoughts, fears, and questions as we explore social norms around death. It is a group-led discussion with no objective, agenda, or theme, and no intention of leading you to a conclusion, product, or course of action.If you’re curious, have experienced loss, or simply want to explore the reality of mortality, this event is for you.Please note that this is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counseling session.The Death Cafe social franchise started in the United Kingdom in 2011. Since then, there have been 22,617 Death Cafes in 94 countries.
