Does my child need martial arts experience to participate in Self-Defense Camp?

Accepted Answer

No! Although many of our Chung Do Tae Kwon Do students participate in our Self-Defense Camp, we welcome and encourage those with no experience, some experience, or even students who train in different styles from different schools! Camp is open to ALL kids ages 5-15!

Question 2

If my child has taken a class with Jamie, like Scout Self-Defense, will they learn new skills?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely! We will cover the basics learned in Scout Self-Defense and/or our 2-Hour Public Self-Defense Seminars. This will be a great refresher if you've played with us before. Then we will be taking a MUCH deeper dive with releases from multiple holds, ground defense, joint locks, and more!

Question 3

What should my child wear to camp?

Accepted Answer

Our new friends can dress in comfortable clothing that does not restrict movement, such as t-shirts, shorts, athletic pants, etc. Current martial arts students can dress in uniform pants, t-shirt, and belt if desired. Students should be prepared to remove shoes and socks.

Can my child bring a water bottle and snacks?

Accepted Answer

Yes! Please send your child with a refillable water bottle and a nut-free snack for our snack break. You can choose the daily snack option for $5/day and we'll provide an allergy-free snack.

Who will be teaching my child?

Accepted Answer

Camp is led by Jamie White, 4th Degree Black Belt in Chung Do Tae Kwon Do. Jamie has been training in Chung Do for 35 years and teaching Self-Defense at her own school, Lyndell Institute, since 2002! She may be assisted by Sharon, 4th Degree Black Belt, and other Black Belt Leaders.

What will my child learn?

Learn the three lines of defense (mind, voice, and body) in a dynamic, age-appropriate, and FUN way! Students will learn how to strike to the vulnerable targets, release common holds, develop increased awareness, practice common defense scenarios, learn basic ground defense, joint locks, and more!

What if I can't drop off at 8am? Can I be late? Can I be early?

We would rather you arrive late than not at all. Let us know if you are running behind or need to adjust your ETA. If you need to arrange an early drop-off, please communicate prior to camp.

Question 9

What if my plans change or my child is sick? Can I get a refund?

Accepted Answer

Life happens! Refunds are available up to 7 days before camp starts should you have a change in plans. If you need to cancel closer to the event date, we can give you a credit for another great camp, class, or activity.

Question 10

Is it best to attend all 3 days? Would my child still benefit from one or two days?

Accepted Answer

Yes, attending the full program is always best, but we would love to have your child join us if even for a day or two! We design the program to have stand-alone daily lessons within our larger  curriculum.

How can you have 5-year-olds and 15-year-olds in the same program?

Accepted Answer

Experience! We have been leading All Ages Martial Arts Classes for 25 years! We have a knack for keeping the younger ones engaged and the older ones challenged through discipline, lessons, games, and activities. As camp approaches, we look at our campers and staff appropriately!

Yes! We will email you a waiver to complete before camp begins!

Can I come tour the facility and meet the owners before camp begins?

Absolutely! Just send us a message and we'll be happy to meet with you!

What is the goal in Self-Defense?

It's more than just kicking and striking! Kids will learn confidence, self-discipline, focus, self-control, emotional regulation, how to train hard and do their best, and...best of all...how to become their most powerful selves!
