Pieces of Me: Grief, Loss, and Reconnection in the Tray explores using sand tray to process loss, honor grief, and reconnect fragmented part

Pieces of Me: Grief, Loss, and Reconnection in the Tray is a trauma-informed training that explores how sand tray therapy can support individuals navigating grief, loss, and identity disruption. The training focuses on how loss fragments internal experience and how symbolic tray work helps clients externalize grief, maintain continuing bonds, and reconnect disowned or wounded parts of self. Participants will engage in experiential activities, clinical examples, and adaptable interventions for working with children, adolescents, and adults experiencing death, separation, ambiguous loss, and cumulative grief.

  1. Identify how grief and loss present symbolically in sand tray and play therapy across developmental stages.
  2. Demonstrate at least three sand tray or expressive play interventions that support grief expression and emotional regulation.
  3. Apply developmentally responsive sand tray techniques for children and adolescents experiencing loss.
  4. Explain the impact of grief and loss on identity, attachment, and nervous system regulation.
  5. Apply trauma-informed sand tray strategies to support reconnection, resilience, and adaptive coping in clinical practice.
