Minimal Computing for Audio Visual Exhibits with AVAnnotate

Digital Scholarship MeetupJanuary 13th at 2 pm on Zoom: Join us for a demonstration of <a href="https://av-annotate.org/" title="https://av-annotate.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">AVAnnotate</a>, a free, Mellon-funded, open-source tool for creating lightweight online exhibits and annotated editions of audio and video materials. Built on minimal computing principles and hosted through GitHub, AVAnnotate allows users to organize AV files, add timestamp-based annotations, and publish curated, IIIF-enabled audiovisual collections on the web. This session will:<ul><li>Introduce the landscape of minimal-computing tools for digital exhibits</li><li>Provide an overview of key AVAnnotate features</li><li>Demonstrate the full workflow of creating, annotating, and publishing an AVAnnotate project using sample materials.&nbsp;</li></ul>This meetup welcomes participants from all disciplines and career stages who are interested in working with audiovisual materials, digital exhibits, or lightweight archival workflows. No prior experience is requiredGuest Speaker:Jack DeVry Riordan is the official AVAnnotate ambassador and a PhD student in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Texas at Austin. His research focuses on contemporary Cuban cinema, especially independent filmmaking communities in Guantánamo and eastern Cuba, and examines how filmmakers navigate media infrastructures, censorship, and cultural memory.
