Open Studio Oasis

Founded in 1974 and named for Charlotte civic leader and former mayor Harvey Bernard Gantt, the Gantt Center’s mission is to present, preserve and celebrate excellence in the art, history and culture of African-Americans and those of African descent. Designed by reknowned architech Philip Freelon, co-designer of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in our nation's capital, the Gantt Center features fine art exhibits from around the world, culture programs & events, and digital art technology. <h3>Equipment Available Inside MODA</h3> <ul><li>Apple iMac M3 Workstations</li><li>Cyclorama (Infinity) Wall</li><li>DMX Controlled Lighting</li><li>Interchangeable Backdrops (black, white, or green Screen)</li><li>Apple iPads (available upon request)</li></ul>*All devices are preloaded with the Adobe Creative Suite and other creative software. <h3>Open Studio Dos and Don'ts</h3> <h3>Do's:</h3> <ul><li>Do come with an open mind ready to explore new ideas and techniques.</li><li>Do plan to create something special and meaningful during your session.</li><li>Do bring your own applicable equipment (e.g., cameras, props, drawing tablets, etc.), if needed.</li><li>Do bring a way to access and save your files (e.g., a hard drive, USB, or cloud storage).</li><li>Do respect the space and other creators by cleaning up after yourself.</li><li>Do ask for help or guidance if you need assistance with equipment.</li><li>Do be mindful of time and respect your scheduled session.</li><li>Do share and collaborate with other artists if you’re working on group projects.</li></ul> <h3>Don’ts:</h3><ul><li>Don’t plan projects involving nudity or explicit content, as this is a shared, inclusive, community space.</li><li>Don’t bring food or drinks into the studio to avoid damage to equipment and workspaces.</li><li>Don’t use harmful or unsafe materials without prior studio approval (e.g., toxic chemicals, smoke machines).</li><li>Don’t disrupt others’ creative processes—keep noise to a respectful level.</li><li>Don’t leave personal belongings unattended, as the studio is not responsible for lost items.</li><li>Don’t monopolize shared equipment; be fair and share with others if it's in high demand.</li></ul>
