DESCRIPTION<ul><li>The Diabetes Foundations class provides education to inpatient nursing on patients admitted with Type I &amp; II, steroid induced, and secondary Diabetes. The class covers nursing considerations for the care of these patients, technologies for management of Diabetes, and patient education.</li></ul>

OBJECTIVESUpon completion of the course, the participant will be able to:<ul><li>Explain the difference between type 1 and type 2 diabetes</li><li>Teach how to use home blood glucose meter</li><li>Support carbohydrate counting for children with diabetes</li><li>Teach the administration of insulin injections</li><li>Teach the treatment of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia</li><li>Teach the basics of diabetes self management</li><li>Explain what are insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitor, and when to expect to start using these devices</li></ul>

CONTINUING EDUCATIONThis continuing education (CE) course is offered through Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford by the Center for Professional Excellence and Inquiry (CPEI). Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN), Provider Number 9713.Center for Professional Excellence and Inquiry is accredited as provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation (ANCC).<ul><li>Number of BRN Contact Hours: 3.75 hours</li><li>Number of ANCC Contact Hours: 3.75 hours</li></ul>Nurses:<ul><li>While CA BRN credits are accepted for your RN license renewal, ANCC credits may only apply to specific certifications. To ensure your credits are valid, please verify with your state board or accrediting body whether they accept ANCC-approved continuing education.</li></ul>Other Medical Professionals:<ul><li>Contact your professional board to determine if they accept continuing education (CE) credits approved by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).</li></ul>Earning CE Credits<ul><li>To be eligible for Continuing Education (CE) credits, participants are required to attend the entire course or event and complete the course evaluation. Partial credit cannot be granted for late arrivals or early departures.</li></ul>Certificate Issuance and Record Keeping<ul><li>CE certificates will be distributed within 30 days of course completion. Participants are responsible for maintaining their personal records of accrued CE documentation. Certificates must be retained for four years following the course date and are valid for a single use toward registered nurse license renewal.</li></ul>

REGISTRATION and FEES<ul><li>Stanford Children's Employees (with CE credits) = $20 (plus admin fees)</li><li>Stanford Children's Employees (with no CE credits) = FREE</li><li>For employment verification, please register using your Stanford work email and employee ID number.</li><li>The Center for Professional Excellence and Inquiry (CPE&I) accepts card payments ONLY for course fees and materials. Transfer of Funds are no longer accepted. Employees seeking reimbursement for educational expenses must obtain their manager's approval through AccessHR. Employees must submit proof of completion and receipts upon completion of a course in order to be reimbursed. <h3>CANCELLATION and REFUND</h3><ul><li>FULL REFUND for cancellations at least 2 weeks prior to class date.</li><li>NO REFUND for cancellations less than 5 days prior to class date.</li><li>For SCH Employees: NO SHOWS or cancellations on the day of class are considered unexcused absences. Managers will be notified. A medical note may be required in the event of illness or medical emergencies.</li><li>Cancellation by CPEI: Schedules, venues and details are subject to change and cancellation. Registered participants will be provided with as much advance notice as possible if this should occur.
