Can we walk from house to house?

Accepted Answer

Some of them. While the homes are on one road less than four miles apart, it would be easier to drive to most.

Question 2

Are all the sites handicapped accessible?

Accepted Answer

Unfortunately, no. Two houses, one church, and other sites are accessible. Many of the homes have at least four steps. As these are antebellum, private homes, some do not have handrails on the front steps.

Question 3

Are there restaurants in the area for lunch?

Accepted Answer

We will have several food trucks and plenty of seating at the Furman School where you register on Saturday Morning. Lunch will be served from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm Saturday.

Question 4

Will there be anywhere to shop in Furman?

Accepted Answer

Yes! We will have several Pop-Up Shops on the grounds of the Furman School where you register on Saturday Morning. The shops will be open from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. In addition, the Wilcox Historical Society will be selling their t-shirts showcasing the homes of Wilcox County at the Furman School.

Will there be public restrooms available?

Accepted Answer

Yes. There will be two very nice restroom trailers at both Wakefield and the Furman School. In addition, there will be a public bathroom behind Bethsaida Baptist Church. You will see their locations on the Tour Map you will receive at registration. PLEASE DO NOT USE THE BATHROOMS IN THE HOMES.

Where do we park on Friday?

Accepted Answer

We will have signs posted clearly marking the parking areas. We will also have parking attendants to direct you and drive you to Wakefield. Please do not park on the grounds of Wakefield unless directed to do so by a parking attendant.

Where should we stay if we need overnight accommodations?

Accepted Answer

We have listed a number of options in the tour information above. We suggest you make reservations early as there are limited options in our area. Most listed are within 25 - 40 minutes from Furman.
