Overview
About this event
This one-day in-person workshop provides up-to-date evidence and competency-based hands-on skill building for suturing, knot-tying, assessment, and repair of common birth lacerations. Education and simulation are combined so that everyone learns by doing.
The workshop builds on core competencies for suturing and provides 6 hours of CE (or Simulation Hours for students). Educators and Student/Preceptor teams are welcomed!
ACNM speciality credit applied for.
The 6-hour workshop is held 9 am-4pm, lunch is provided.
Morning: Knot-tying and Suturing, & Assessment for Birth Lacerations builds on the core competencies for suturing, knot-tying, and assessing tissues for birth lacerations. Focus is on building a learning plan for personal improvement of instrument handling & suturing skills. Identification of anatomy and assessment after birth prepare the participant for repair or birth lacerations.
Afternoon: Repair of Birth Lacerations builds on the core competencies for repair of birth lacerations. We'll create perineal and labial laceration models together. Focus is on identification of lacerations, planning and performing repairs, with application of the suturing and knot-tying skills during simulated repair of birth lacerations.
As part of this workshop participants will receive a suturing model, suturing instruments, and suture. Participants will be provided their choice of 3-dimentional foam or tissue models for Session Two. The workshop includes presentations, demonstrations, and mentored simulation. Participants must make their own accomodation arrangements
