What is Clay Play?

Clay Play is an intimate, clay hand-building workshop in Tucson where 8-12 participants gather around the clay table for two hours of creativity, and connection. Unlike large pottery classes, this experience is designed to be social, grounding, and stress-relieving.

Who can attend Clay Play?

All skill levels are welcome! Whether you’re a beginner curious about pottery or an experienced ceramic artist, Clay Play is for anyone interested in hands-on art, mindfulness, and community connection. Young artists under  the age of 15 are allowed only if accompanied by an adult.

What are the benefits of clay hand-building?

Clay hand-building helps improve focus, relieve stress, and spark creativity. It’s also a form of resistance training for the hands and mind, encouraging decision-making, confidence, and imagination. Many participants describe Clay Play as both meditative and energizing.

What will I make at Clay Play?

Every session is different! Participants have created bowls, altar figures, wind chimes, tiles, charm boxes, and tea bag holders. Your piece will be uniquely yours, shaped by imagination and conversation at the clay table.

Beyond the art, Clay Play is a social experience. Strangers gather and exchange perspectives—turning the clay table into a circle of community, dialogue, and creativity. It’s been called “the first Google” because it sparks open, unscripted conversations while making art.

May I book Clay Play for a private group - birthdays, corporate events, wedding parties, etc?

How much does it cost and what’s included?

Accepted Answer

Clay Play is $35 per person. Firing is optional for an extra fee determined by size. The fee includes 1lb of clay, access to tools, glazes  and guidance. Just bring yourself, some water, wear comfortable clothes that can get dirty. We do have aprons, water, coffee and tea onsite as well.

Where is Clay Play held? Where is Temple Arts Collective located?

Clay Play takes place at Temple Arts Collective, 267 S. Stone Ave, Tucson, AZ. It is located inside Labor Temple Studio—a downtown haven for artists, makers, and creatives. Metered parking is available in front of the building.
