The Middle Creek Flyathlon has some of Colorado's best single track and small stream fishing raising money for the Rio Grande cutthroat!
The 12th Annual Middle Creek Flyathlon takes place the weekend of July 31st - August 2nd, 2026 in the picturesque Middle Creek watershed near the town of Saguache in Colorado's San Luis Valley.
On the short course, runners will have the opportunity to run / fish small streams and beaver ponds (including the native Rio Grande cutthroat trout), take a shot / selfie with Bunny the Bourbon Burro in a magestic stand of aspen trees, and peer out over the entire valley from the top of Cow Skull Hill! Short course length is about 7 miles out and back with about 900 feet of cumulative elevation gain.
Long course runners will get all that, plus additional fishing on Indian Creek and a climb up the diabolical WTF Hill! Total long course length is about 12.5 miles with 2300 feet of elevation gain.
As most of you likely know, while the Flyathlon race will take place on Saturday AM, participants are encouraged to come and camp the entire weekend (Friday afternoon - Sunday AM).
Importantly, the Middle Creek Flyathlon is at its heart a fundraiser for Rio Grande cutthroat trout conservation work. If you sign up, please plan on fundraising in 2026.
We look forward to seeing you in the San Luis Valley in August!
