KNCJ Biggest Little Concert Series with Reno Modern Brass
KNCJ 89.5FM, KUNR Public Radio’s classical music and jazz station, invites you to the 4th concert of its 2025 Biggest Little Concert Series!
On Sunday, May 17, 2026 at 11:00 a.m., Reno Modern Brass, the brass quintet affiliated with reNEW Music that features some of the Reno area's finest brass players, will present a program of recently-commissioned works, largely by local composers.
Founded in 2018, Reno Modern Brass is a locally-focused brass chamber ensemble devoted to the performance and creation of music of living composers. This concert will feature:
Jef Derderian and Josh Reed, trumpets
Kevin Miescke, French horn
Paul Fleming, trombone
Gary Mayne, Bass trombone
Tyler Cravines, drums
They'll be playing music by Brandon Sherman, April Guthrie, Zack Teran, Larry Engstrom, Jef Derderian, Tristan Selzler, and Andrew Rowan (repertoire is subject to change).
The KNCJ Biggest Little Concert Series, presented quarterly, will feature a combination of music performed by some of the Truckee Meadows's finest musicians, and casual conversation both musical and personal. Inspired by the legendary, long-running public radio program Saint Paul Sunday, the Biggest Little Concert Series will be a showcase for local musicians.
The conversation for the KNCJ Biggest Little Concert Series will be moderated by Chris Morrison, producer for KNCJ public radio.
All proceeds from these concerts will benefit KNCJ, Nevada Classical and Jazz. Support for these concerts has been provided by David Fenimore, former announcer at KUNR public radio and retired professor of English at the University of Nevada, Reno.
