2025 Social Justice Children's Book Fair

Do you believe in the revolutionary power of literature? So do we. Since 2015, Bay Area Book Festival has featured the boldest and most brilliant literary voices in conversations about issues that matter, with a focus on justice and diversity. We’re a world-class literary extravaganza taking place each year over two days in Downtown Berkeley.

Emerson Elementary School

Now in its 9th year, the Social Justice Children’s Book Fair brings together social-justice oriented book creators, literacy organizations, publishers, and more! Running from 11-3 pm at Emerson Elementary School in Oakland, this year's fair is bigger and better than ever. We will have our popular storytime in the library, this year curated by The Storyland Collective (11-2) and a Reading the Rainbow Storytime with librarians from San Francisco and Oakland Public libraries (2-3). New additions include outdoor performances, with Alphabet Rockers, Mr. Juan of the Storytime Band, a live drawing demonstration, and more! Panels on topics including Black representation in indie publishing, social justice graphic novels, and highlighting the winners of the inaugural Social Justcie Children’s Book Award, plus a create-your-own-zine activity, will fill out this amazing day.Grab your littles and your friends and come to the biggest and most social justicey event for the holidays. We look forward to seeing you there!
