Spark Artist-led Workshop: Listening to Data

The Peale Center for Baltimore History and Architecture, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, is restoring the oldest museum building in the United States in partnership with the City of Baltimore. Through its programs, the Peale Center will illuminate the authentic stories of Baltimore's people and places while reinventing the urban museum in the creative and innovative spirit of its founder, artist Rembrandt Peale.

In this hands-on artist-led workshop, participants will explore how to transform complex environmental data into compelling sonic compositions using sonification—a method of translating data into sound.Using real-world sources such as the U.S. Geological Survey’s Water Dashboard, you’ll learn how to pull environmental metrics (like streamflow, rainfall, or temperature data) and translate them into auditory experiences using Processing, a flexible open-source platform for creative coding.
