This years Design Award Gala is hybrid and will be held both in person and virtually for better accessibility to the membership. About the AwardsYou are invited to be attend this year’s Design Awards Holiday Gala where we will be announcing the recipients of AIA Santa Barbara’s Design Awards 2021! The purpose of the Design Awards is to recognize and honor excellence in architecture within our local built environment and by AIA Santa Barbara architects beyond our region. The AIA Santa Barbara Design Awards draws attention to the extraordinary legacy of great architecture in Santa Barbara and California, and the value of well-designed architecture to every member of our community.We have submissions from licensed architects in the Santa Barbara area, as well as from architects outside Santa Barbara if their project was located in Santa Barbara County. Honor, Merit, and Honorable Mentions may be recognized in the following categories: Commercial Buildings; Single Family Residential, Mixed Use and Multi-Family Residential; Conservation Projects: Historic Preservation, Restoration, Rehabilitation or Reconstruction; Santa Barbara Style; Small Projects: Single Family Residential Additions, Remodels or Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU's); Commercial Interiors; Residential Interiors; and Proposed/Unbuilt Project.Also awarded at the Gala will be the annual Lutah Maria Riggs community award.JurorsOur jurors this year are: Mariana Ibañez, Chair and Associate Professor at UCLA Architecture and Urban Design; Aaron Jon Hyland, FAIA, a San Francisco based architect and PlaceMaker consulting on Architecture, Preservation, and Cultural Heritage; and Alvin Huang, Director of Graduate &amp; Post-Professional Degrees at USC School of Architecture.About the EventThe in person 2021 Design Awards Gala will be held at the Mar Monte Hotel on Cabrillo. Participation via zoom allows you to watch the proceedings from the comfort of your own home. Please note: You will receive a link to Zoom the day before the event. You can log on at any time, from 5.30 pm on. Guests will be mingling and getting dinner until around 6pm, when the presentation will start.
