The Catalyst

The UK is hosting the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow on 31 October- 12 November 2021. Join us in Newcastle as we bring together both the public and private sector, and academia, to explore how key economic sectors across our region are responding to the environmental crisis and discuss the challenges that lie ahead on the route to net zero.The event, led in partnership with recent inward investor, <a href="https://www.thoughtworks.com/en-gb" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Thoughtworks</a>, and marketing and communications consultancy, <a href="https://www.streetsconsulting.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Streets Consulting</a>, will spotlight our regions significant contribution toward environmental sustainability and provide a forum for discussing the opportunities presented by COP-26 to accelerate sustainability action across the economy. Newcastle is a climate leader and is targeting net zero emissions by 2030, 20 years ahead of the UK Government’s target. However, no individual or organisation can deliver the net zero commitment alone. The road to net zero emissions requires cross-sectoral collaboration and a whole-city approach, with businesses, academia, the private sector, residents, and communities putting sustainability at the heart of what they do. This one day conference will consist of four mini-events bringing together expert panels in the areas of finance, clean transport, cities and the built environment, and life sciences. The panels will discuss key questions such as:•	What is the role of fintech in driving current and future sustainability?•	How is the built environment reducing its carbon footprint?•	Why are smarter cities, sustainable cities? •	How is the North East accelerating electrification? •	How can the life sciences sector enable GHG emissions reduction?
