ALPFA at WTAMU

Dr. Arthur Benjamin, the professional magician and "America's Best Math Whiz" will do a special free and fun mathematics presentation!

A professional magician and one of the world&#x27;s fastest mental calculators will inspire students to have fun learning mathematics and business statistics. Dr. Arthur T. Benjamin will join WT virtually at 6 p.m. October 27. As a Distinguished Lecture Series event co-sponsored by the Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA) at WTAMU student chapter, Paul and Virginia Engler College of Business and College of Engineering, this event is free and open to the public. In his presentation, Dr. Benjamin, also known as “America’s Best Math Whiz” will encourage students to see how mathematics is fun and how they can feel joy when applying mathematics in their courses and in their future careers. By learning about the value of mathematics in relation to the digital age and to careers, this event will challenge many students’ negative bias toward mathematics.Dr. Benjamin is the Smallwood Family Professor of Mathematics at Harvey Mudd College. He has been repeatedly honored by the Mathematical Association of America for his teaching and writing and was recently selected by Princeton Review as one of The Best 300 Professors in America. In 2020, he applied his talents to the game of backgammon and was the winner of the American Backgammon Tour. He has also appeared in The Today Show and CNN, and has been featured in Scientific American, People, New York Times, and Reader’s Digest.
