Join us in the Department of Politics and International Relations at the University of Reading to meet our latest ‘Political Voice’. Rt Hon Sir Oliver Letwin MA PhD, is a British politician who served as an MP for West Dorset from 1997 – 2019. He also served as Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer under Michael Howard and Shadow Home Secretary under Iain Duncan Smith before becoming Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster under David Cameron.
In his lecture, Sir Oliver Letwin will discuss the argument that intellectual honesty in political debate is an indispensable precondition for maintaining a liberal democracy – and that populist disregard for facts is ultimately as dangerous and corrosive as any extreme ideology.
The lecture presentation will be followed by an open Q&amp;A session.
